Independent Schools Victoria Compliance Framework

Requirements under the Schools Assistance Act 2008 (Cth.)

Australian Government Accountability

Please scroll to the bottom of the page for contacts and links

Do you need to comply?

Yes, if your school receives funding from the Australian Government under the Schools Assistance Act 2008 (Cth.).

Conditions of compliance

To receive funding, your school must sign a funding agreement with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) covering the 2009-2012 quadrennium. In some cases, the Funding Agreement is between DEEWR and the school system authority.

The Funding Agreement encompasses both financial and educational accountability.

If you have to comply, what do you have to do?

By signing the Agreement, a school commits to a number of initiatives and accountabilities. These include:

  • National student assessments
  • National reports on the outcome of schooling
  • Provision of individual school information
  • Provision to parents of student reports
  • Publication of information relating to schools
  • Provision of specified school performance information
  • Implementation of the national curriculum
  • Financial reporting
  • Participation in program evaluation
  • Report to parents twice a year
  • Post information relating to school performance on the internet which is to be made available upon request.

Schools will need to confirm that they have met these conditions of funding by completing an annual Compliance Certificate.

What are the consequences if you don't comply?

Funding cannot be made until a school or system authority has signed the agreement with the Commonwealth. If a school or system authority does not fulfil a condition, the Minister may seek repayment of an amount or reduce other amounts payable to the school or system authority or delay making any further payment to the authority.
