A principal's responsibilities in providing the VCE and/or VCAL
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) responsibilities
Please scroll to the bottom of the page for contacts and links
Do you need to comply?
Yes, if your school is a VCE and/or VCAL provider
Conditions of compliance
Principals of schools are the formal authority for many important procedural and managerial requirements in the VCE and VCAL.
Schools indicate to the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) each year, through student enrolments, the detailed programs the school will offer. In so doing, the principal undertakes to ensure that students are provided with access to adequate facilities and resources to complete any VCE and / or VCAL study offered by the school.
If you have to comply, what do you have to do?
It is the role of the principal to ensure the following:
- Communications from the VCAA reach school staff
- Students receive VCE and VCAL advice
- Accuracy of VCE and VCAL enrolment details, address and consent permissions
- Security, accuracy and punctuality of VASS data
- Security of Student Numbers and PINs
- Maintenance of school records
- Integrity of VCE and VCAL school assessments
- Integrity of examination centers and supervisors
- Procedures exist for conducting student appeals
- Administration of Special Provision
The signature of the principal, or a delegate for the principal, is required on some documents to certify that the information therein is accurate and complete.
What are the consequences if you don't comply?
The programs, assessment and results of VCE and/or VCAL students may be affected. Your school could also lose its registration as a provider of the VCE and/or VCAL.
