Yes, according to the provisions of the various Acts and Regulations applicable to schools.
Conditions of compliance
A School Council/Board has a responsibility to understand the legal basis for the operation of its school.
If you have to comply, what do you have to do?
Schools must comply with many State and Commonwealth Acts and Regulations. Among the most important pieces of legislation are:
- Schools Assistance (Learning Together - Achievement Through Choice and Opportunity) Act 2004 (Commonwealth)
- Education Training and Reform Act 2006 (Vic)
- Education Grants Act 1973 (Vic)
- Education and Training Reform Regulations 2006

What are the consequences if you don't comply?
You may be penalised, fined or your school could be de-registered.
