Funding review
Background
On 15 April 2010, the Federal Education Minister, Ms Julia Gillard, announced that the Australian Government would undertake a review of school funding, as promised at the 2007 election.
Subsequent to Ms Gillard’s announcement, draft terms of reference were circulated for comment. Comments were due on 31 May 2010.
Independent Schools Victoria Response
The Independent Schools Victoria submission maintained four fundamentals which would provide direction to its response to the Review of Funding for Schools. These were:
- That choice in education is defended in legislation
- That a freeze of funding on individual Independent schools is unacceptable
- That funding should be centred on students, not schools
- That personal or private contribution towards a child’s education should have no bearing on the level of government funding they receive.
- A copy of the Independent Schools Victoria submission can be accessed here.
Other Organisations
- The Independent Schools Council of Australia also made a submission to the Draft Terms of Reference. Their submission can be accessed here.
