International
Environment and School Initiatives (OECD)
(ENSI) is an international government based network established under the auspices of OECD –CERI (Centre for Education, Research and Innovation) in 1986. The international secretariat is based in Solothurn, Switzerland. Over the last year, ENSI has developed an official partnership with UNESCO in the framework of the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development (UN DESD) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in relation to the UNECE strategy on Education for Sustainable Development.
ENSI brings together school initiatives, school authorities, teacher training, educational research institutions and other stakeholders from more than twenty countries worldwide and its membership is growing. Its core business is cutting edge research and policy reflection in the field of Education for Sustainable Development.
Sustainable Schools Project (US)
The program is designed to help schools use sustainability as an integrating context for curriculum, community partnerships, and campus practices.
Eco-Schools
Eco-Schools is a program for environmental management and certification, and sustainable development education, for schools. Its holistic, participatory approach and combination of learning and action make it an ideal way for schools to embark on a meaningful path to improving the environments of schools and their local communities, and of influencing the lives of young people, school staff, families, local authorities, NGOs, etc.
TeacherNet – Sustainable Schools (UK)
The Sustainable Schools area of TeacherNet is designed to support schools on their journey to sustainability, introducing the principles of sustainable development and offering guidance on how to embed these principles into the heart of school life. The site provides useful information for all sectors of the school community, including the leadership team, the management team, teachers and parents, and offers a number of excellent online and downloadable tools (auditing, benchmarking, environmental assessment) to help schools identify the best route to becoming more sustainable.
UNESCO – Teaching & Learning for a Sustainable Future
Teaching and Learning for a Sustainable Future is a multimedia teacher education program published by UNESCO. It contains 100 hours (divided into 25 modules) of professional development for use in pre-service teacher courses as well as the in-service education of teachers, curriculum developers, education policy makers, and authors of educational materials.
Ollie’s World – An interactive Sustainability Resource
Ollie's World is a child-friendly, comprehensive resource centre - presenting information on all sorts of issues relating to sustainability principles. Characters and activities from the 'Ollie' CD ROM Programs are incorporated into a fun and stimulating website. Children can extend their knowledge of sustainability and its related issues, in a fun and entertaining way. 'Ollie's World' is the umbrella site for the suite of "Ollie" web sites, produced to support the "Ollie" Programs in various countries. 'Ollie's World' contains two sections - one for adults and one for kids.
EcoKids (Canada)
The EcoKids Club is part of Earth Day Canada's fun, innovative, interactive environmental education program for youth who care about the planet. We provide many different EcoKids clubs across the country with environmental knowledge and hands-on activities and ideas that increase awareness and inspire active community involvement.
