Commonwealth Government

Australian Government's Community Water Grants

The Australian Government’s Community Water Grants program offers grants to help local community organisations save, recycle or improve the health of their local water resources. Grants are available for projects related to: water saving and efficiency, water recycling and  water treatment – improving surface and groundwater health.

Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative

Sustainable Schools integrates sustainability education into a holistic program with measurable environmental, economic, educational and social outcomes. The program implements improvement in a school's management of resources and grounds (including energy, waste, water, biodiversity, landscape design, products and materials) and integrates this approach into the existing curriculum and daily running of the school. The program is action based and involves the whole school community in the sustainable management of the school. Sustainable Schools does not replace other environmental education initiatives in schools. It links to and complements existing environmental education programs such as Energy Smart Schools, WasteWise, Waterwatch, Waterwise and Landcare.

Sustainable Schools

Around 350 schools in Victoria and NSW took part in the Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative (AuSSI) pilot from 2002-2004. NSW and Victoria were funded to develop alternative approaches to whole school sustainability. Both models have successfully demonstrated how to support a whole of school approach to environmental education in two of the largest education systems in Australia. Gould League and CERES were responsible for delivery of the Sustainable Schools pilot to 160 schools in Victoria.
