Reseach

Independent Schools Victoria uses quality research to inform policy, decision-making, advocacy and in building the case for change. Research also has an important role to play in supporting leaders in education and teachers in schools to make improvements in teaching practice and organisation.

Research assists in evaluating how we teach and learn from the experiences of others in the educational community. It provides insight and understanding in relation to the learner, the curriculum program, the art of teaching, and the broader educational context.

Research-driven improvements aim to improve educational outcomes.

The process of refining our knowledge and practice in education involves:

  • researching pedagogy, learners and learning
  • delivering professional learning programs to improve teacher capacity
  • refining pedagogical practice
  • adjusting curriculum, assessment and reporting to reflect these improvements.

Independent Schools Victoria is involved in research programs and is working with strategic partners to further our research agenda.

Current research projects include:

  • the effective principles of professional learning
  • effective pedagogies and programs for working with students with learning difficulties and disabilities
  • the impact of information communication technology on student learning outcomes
  • the impact of intervention programs in literacy and numeracy, and
  • the role of data in school improvement.
